The quality of medical services is largely determined by the innovativeness of the medical tactics and approaches used to recover the patient’s health. Modern medicine knows a lot of less traumatic surgical techniques, the purpose of which is to maximize the preservation of the patient’s tissues, and as a result – a short rehabilitation period and quick recovery of the patient. Let’s look at the main modern surgical techniques used in the treatment of patients in different countries.

ROBOTIC OPERATIONS
One of the most popular and actively gaining momentum are the robotic surgeries. Such operations are performed using special systems, the most famous of which is the da Vinci robotic surgical unit (da Vinci ®). This robot system is designed for laparoscopic operations. Today, this type of surgery is still little known in the developing countries, but it is already actively used in the leading clinics of the world.

Operations using the Da Vinci system are carried out in many areas of medicine and the list of interventions annually grows.
At the moment, robot-assisted procedures are carried out in the following areas:
–General surgery (gastric bypass surgery, fundoplication, removal of the thymus gland, lung lobectomy, esophagectomy, thyroidectomy);
–Urology (prostatectomy for prostate cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer are especially popular);
–Gynecology (hysterectomy, myomectomy);
–Heart surgery (mitral valve surgery, myocardial revascularization, etc.);
–Spinal surgery (intervertebral disc replacement, spinal canal surgery).
-
- The
advantages
- of this type of surgery are:
- Minimal blood loss and trauma to patient’s tissue;
- Ultra high accuracy of operation;
- Minimal pain in the postoperative period;
- Reduced risks of complications (for example, wound infection);
- Professional risks for the surgeon are excluded (risk of infection);
- Shorter recovery period;
- Best cosmetic result.
One major drawback of robotic surgery is its high cost, which is explained by the high cost of the device, materials, the need for regular staff training and license updates.
Operations using the da Vinci system are available in Israel, Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey and South Korea. One of the most famous specialists in the field of urology and oncourology operate in the Medical Park hospitals (Istanbul, Turkey), Medicana (Istanbul, Turkey), Ichilov Medical Center (Tel Aviv, Israel), Motol University Hospital (Prague, Czech Republic) in Prostate cancer center Europe (Gronau, Germany).
STEREOTACTIC SURGERY
This type of minimally invasive surgery is based on extremely accurate targeted access to the internal tissues of the human body. Today this type of procedure is mainly applicable in neurosurgical interventions.
Access planning is carried out using the latest computer systems and three-dimensional CT or MRI navigation – neuronavigation is also used intraoperatively. The method has large number of advantages for interventions related to brain neoplasms located deep in the hemispheres or near the functional areas.
-
- The
advantages
- of the operation are:
- Chances of its conduction under local anesthesia;
- Minimal blood loss;
- No need for craniotomy (during the operation several holes are made no more than 1 cm in diameter);
- Access to deep structures;
- Low risk of damage to the functional areas of the brain;
- Fast recovery period.
The limited use are among the disadvantages to be noted – at the moment stereotactic operations are not designed for all neoplasms and localization. The most common method of stereotactic surgery is applicable for taking a biopsy from brain tumors, drainage of brain cysts, removal of cancerous growths, brachytherapy. In modern medicine, stereotactic radiosurgery is actively used, based on the principle of effect of radiation directly on the given areas of the brain and the method is completely bloodless.
The technique is available at the Ichilov Medical Center (Israel), Medical Park Clinics (Turkey), Yeditepe Clinic (Turkey), Severance Hospital (Korea), University Hospital of Navarra (Spain).
OPERATIONS FOR JOINTS REPLACEMENT

Orthopedics and traumatology also boasts modern surgical approaches – for example, in hip arthroplasty.
Today, the internationally leading anterior minimally invasive surgery (AMIS) is used in foreign leading hospitals. This technique implies a reduced skin incision; during the operation, the nerve endings, tendons and muscles are not damaged, as they are gently retracted to the sides during the process.
Given this feature, blood loss during surgery is much less than with standard techniques. Already on the second day, patients can sit on their own, and after 1 month you can resume active sports.
Such operations are carried out in the leading clinics of the world, for example, at the University Hospital Motol (Czech Republic), at the University Hospital of Navarra (Spain) at the Academic Clinic Solingen (Germany), Medistate Hospital (Istanbul, Turkey), Wooridul Spine Hospital (South Korea), Central Orthopedic Hospital Vienna (Austria).
In modern medicine, minimally invasive interventions have taken a leading position. In addition to laparoscopic abdominal and thoracic interventions, minimally invasive tactics are used in neurosurgery, spinal surgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery, bariatrics, head and neck surgery, peripheral nerves, etc.
