The Shaare Zedek Medical Center is a private non-profit organization operating thanks to charitable donations and not receiving funding from the state budget.

Practical and scientific research activities of the clinic occur through funds from patients care and voluntary contributions from different people around the world. Conduction of research, improving equipment and increasing the range of services are also through the expenses of volunteers.

Today the clinic is accredited by JCI. This certificate is available at just 200 institutions around the world.

The diversified clinical center of Shaare Zedek is distinguished by the work of the emergency department and resuscitation, which was fully manifested during the attacks in Jerusalem.

Shaare Zedek is positioned as a research center for the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Collaboration with the medical faculty stimulates scientific research, promotes the creation of new and improved existing methods of training future doctors, as well as improving the treatment quality of patients.

These methods involve the latest technologies of fetal diagnostics and pregnancy testing is carried out with the help of a gene chip.

The three lower floors occupied the most necessary services, the emergency medicine department, the operating rooms, the medical supply, sterilization department and the pharmacy. These services are underground, in order to ensure non-stop work to save lives, even during disasters, terrorist attacks and hostilities.

Features of the Clinic

Thanks to the cardiosurgical department, the hospital is considered one of the leading institutions in Israel for the surgical treatment of coronary heart disease by coronary artery bypass grafting, and valvular heart disease in adults of all ages. The specialists there perform more than 2,000 coronarographies yearly.

Since 2008, they have been performing non-surgical implantation of an aortic valve by introducing an artificial valve through the femoral artery or usinh a transapical method. This technique saves lives of people suffering from severe aortic valve contraction, for whom open-heart surgery is unavaliable due to high risk. According to the statistics, the department has performed more than 6,000 successful operations:

Following diagnostic procedures are available:

иконка галочкиInterstitial closure of the left atrial appendage by catheterization of the femoral artery. This procedure prevents the formation of blood clots in the left atrium and is indicated to those suffering from atrial fibrillation and those who can not receive anticoagulation therapy.

The ear-nose-throat department (ENT) of Shaare Zedek Medical Center started small, but grew to be a leader in advanced ear surgery, including complex cochlear implant surgery. The number of inpatients and outpatients has increased significantly over the years.

Doctors of Shaarei Tzedek have extensive experience in diagnostics and treatment of ENT pathologies. They strive to provide high quality medical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. There is a pediatric department for treatment of nasopharyngeal diseases equipped with the latest technology.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Shaare Tzedek Medical Center diagnoses and treats diseases related to the nervous system. They use advanced techniques to maintain and restore brain and spinal cord functions.

Treatment is carried out by a team of neurosurgeons who have been trained in world's leading institutions to work with innovative technologies. The department is prepared to treat severe head injuries, complex brain tumors, degenerative diseases of the central nervous system such as normal pressure hydrocephaly, and other disorders.

The department's operating room is equipped with the latest model of visualisation technology, ultrasound and a surgical robot that allows performing procedures such as tumor tissue biopsy with extreme accuracy.

The surgeons of Shaare Zedek perform complex skull base operations. These operations are performed using a variety of surgical approaches and methods. Some of these interventions are done endoscopically - through the nose. This method has improved considerably over the last decade, and in many cases replaces the traditional skull dissection surgery.

The Department of Neurosurgery is part of the Brain Treatment Center, which also includes the Department of Brain Stroke and the Department of Invasive Neurodegeneration (Brain Catheterization), which deals with cerebrovascular diseases such as aneurysms and AVM (arteriovenous malformations).

In the OB-GYN department at the Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center more than 20,000 births are conducted annually. The Center is also one of the main facilities for the surgical treatment of female genital oncology and in vitro fertilization. Every year more than 2,800 surgeries and about 1,500 IVF procedures are performed here.

The Center operates a unique clinic for women's and foetus' health, which focuses on providing interdisciplinary, in-depth and professional information to patients, as well as support and counseling for couples.

The In Vitro Fertilization Center is the pride of the hospital with the highest success rate in Israel.

Super. The childcare and paediatric surgery departments are outstanding. My surgeon and gynaecologist were the best. The nurses from the 9 floor are, however, rude to the patients. The girls from the 7th floor (Women’s care) are great.
