TREATMENT OF INFERTILITY AND IVF IN THE MEMORIAL CLINIC

Please, doctor Akdemir, tell us more about neurology department in Memorial clinic. How do you diagnose patients?
"We have the neuroradiologist, neuroanesthesiologist, neurooncologist anything that deals with nerve. We have another discipline such as 3 Tesla MRI which is used as conventional MRI, further we are using Perfusion fMRI , Functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Tractography and also planning everything with the MRI.
You have a lot of technical innovations in the clinic. How do you use them to treat patients?
If patient has Glioblastoma or something like that,we gave all of the information to patient. Intra operative neuronavigation is used, for every spinal and cranial case we use neuromonitorization.Intraoperative ultrasonography is also used.High quality Zeiss neurosurgery miscoscope alongside neuronavigation and immune staining.
In neurovascular surgery such as aneurysm or some malformation we are using Doppler or Intraoperative ICG. It is the microscope which shows us the vascular components to see if these are stenosed or not. Immune staining is used which is given intravenously showing us staining for presence of tumor or to differentiate if not a tumor.
You have a lot of surgeons and neurosurgeons in your team. And who else is involved in treating patients?
This is our surgical team work which is available everytime. Further we have a good rehabilitation team, patient’s rooms, bed etc. are very nice.
How do you do spinal surgery?
In spinal surgery we are using technology O-Arm which is the new facility for us and probably in the world. Intraoperative CT scan used in spinal subluxation case ,we get the 3D CT scan images to see clearly everything and can use O-Arm
Are you using the Stereotactic biopsy and do you use it for all the brain stem tumors or radiological images give you enough information to recognize?
Yes we perform sterotactic biopsy but Perfusion fMRI , Functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy usually gives good image and there is no need to do stereotactic biopsy every time. In case of suspicion we use the stereotactic biopsy but sometimes as we rarely receive cases with 1 cm glioblastoma.Usually we receive the case when the glioblastoma is already 6 cm - 8cm , schwannoma or something similar. Stereotactic biopsy often needed in brain stem tumors
What is the general protocol of treatment for brain stem tumors?
Brain stem tumor is very different especially most are pediatric cases and mostly textbooks say that don’t touch it and monitor only at first.
